DX51D+Z vs SGCC: Which Galvanized Coil Grade Fits Your Order?

DX51D+Z and SGCC look similar on paper, and many buyers treat them as if they are interchangeable. They are not. The right choice depends on the destination market, the drawing standard, the coating requirement, and how the coil will be processed after delivery.

If you buy galvanized coil for export, the standard name can matter as much as the coating itself.

Where DX51D+Z is usually the better fit

DX51D+Z is commonly specified under EN 10346 practice. Buyers often choose it for general forming, sheet conversion, roofing-related processing, and projects where European naming is expected by the end customer or engineer. If your downstream buyer asks for an EN standard, starting with DX51D+Z avoids later substitution disputes.

Where SGCC is usually the better fit

SGCC is more familiar in JIS-based supply chains. It is often easier to sell into markets and factories that already work with Japanese naming and acceptance habits. For many trading orders, SGCC is chosen simply because the customer side already understands that label and wants less interpretation risk.

What matters more than the label

Grade name alone does not guarantee a good order. Buyers should still confirm coating weight, thickness, width, coil weight, surface condition, and whether the material will be slit, roll-formed, painted, or kept in storage before use. These details decide whether the coil runs smoothly in production.

If you are still comparing coating levels, our galvanized coating weight guide is the natural next step. For a broader standard comparison, see ASTM A653 G60 vs G90 and Z60-Z275 coating guide.
