What Is Steel Conduit / EMT?

Conduit is a tube through which electrical wires are pulled. EMT is a lightweight, thin-wall, galvanized steel tube joined with set-screw or compression couplings — no threading required. IMC is thicker-wall and stronger; RMC (rigid metal conduit) is heaviest and used where maximum protection is needed. All three are normally hot-dip or pre-galvanized for corrosion resistance.
